Grossglockner - Ep 6 - Say Goodbye

Unfortunatley the days of vacation in Austria were over, we needed to head back. So we took off @ about 5:30 AM (Austria time). Some final shots of the mountains and the road (as if they were saying goodbye).
Well, hope to be able to see these mountains again.

Grossglockner - Ep 5 - The Peak

So, off we went to see the Grossglockner peak up close.
The road that leads to the peak was great, we couldn't help to stop by and admire the scenery Smile...

We got to the observation point and parked the car.
It was colder here (that huge glaciar @ 3700 meters sure made it feel colder) and we stayed to admire the view, but not for too long (OK, there were people in some sort of shorts and mountain boots - didn't seem to care about the cold - that was weird - I guess they were hiking to get warm).

Then, coming back, we noticed this incredible mountain lake. We stopped by and the temperature was way better there - we spent probably another hour there.

Grossglockner - Ep 4 - The First Climb

OK, not an actual "climb" per say... we used a Cable Car Grin...
The Heiligenblut - Schareck cable car took us up to 2600 meters.
We saw the high alpine road that we had used to get in Heiligenblut (2 days earlier) - man, was that road WAY UP, or what!
In just a couple of minutes the wind started to speed up and the clouds gathered... we took that as a sign to descend - but I took some shots of the huge valley, during the descend.

Grossglockner - Ep 3 - The Gold and the Crystals

Tauern Gold Exhibition
We found out that the Tauern region has an old tradition in mining. Especially Gold mining. So the next day we went to visit the Tauern Gold exhibition, actually hosted in the basement of a building from the 18th century, only a few kilometers away.
Haven't made so much pictures there, here's the one with the old building, and I also scanned the presentational flyers...

Tauern Crystal Exhibition
After that, we visited the old water tower in the village of Winklern that hosted a mining crystal exhibition. Here I got the chance to make a few shots...

Grossglockner - Ep 2 - The Waterfall and the Rain

The Waterfall
The next day we went a few kilometers down to visit a famous waterfall...
That would be the Jungernsprung (Maiden's Leap) waterfall (check out its legend in one of the photos below).
The waterfall's 130 meters high and it has a 1 hour pathway to the top... we only went up for about 5 minutes Smile...
The waterfall water was flowing into a small river that had crystal clear water.
Really nice scenery.

The Rain

We wanted to visit some more sites, but the afternoon was not so friendly in terms of weather. So we stayed in. The fresh mountain air got even better after a bit of rain. Some shots from after the rain - the clouds were moving along the cliff that was next to us.

We did't need to worry though, it was going to get really better the next day...
